Layar

Will be showing Layar Browser.

Where/how to obtain: Via the Android Marketplace and Apple AppStore.

What is it: The Layar Browser is a free application which shows what is around you by displaying real-time digital information on top of reality through the camera of iPhone 3GS or Android mobile phones.

On top of the camera image (displaying reality) Layar adds content layers. Layers are the equivalent of web pages in normal browsers. Just like there are thousands of websites there will be thousands of layers. One can easily switch between layers by selecting another via the menu button.

More information available here.

How does it help: Developers get a platform to make 3D experiences and produce point of interest layers for others. Like a web agency which develops websites. There is no fee for development of layers on the Layar platform.

Brands get the new context-relevant channel to reach their potential and existing customers.

Operators and Device Manufactures add value to their end users and can distinguish themselves from competitors by offering unique, exclusive layers on their device or network.

End users: Layar helps end-users to make sense of their surroundings. To find things out or find something that they didn’t know. And also to get fun experiences, in 3D and with interactivity.
